Hi,

SPAMbots registering fake users in the forum is at historic peaks.

I just read that the Mastering VAST guys are suffering the same issue. It's really annoying and a waste of time.

I'll be taking measures to try to deal with it in "bulk".

One of the ways is that accounts with 0 posts will be DELETED. That I can do in bulk fairly quickly and is a fairly easy way to weed out fake accounts.

So, if you have a real account, please say Hi in the People's forum. In any case, without doing that you can't download anything so better just introduce yourself and be a regular member.

There are and there will be more restrictions for registering new accounts, like specific domains or some strings within the name.

If anybody gets contacted by any SPAMMER from withing Ksetlist please let me know and I'll delete that account.

I know that spammers and hackers are constantly screwing with sysadmins on EVERY website, but PLEASE Fran, could you either get rid of the login Capcha or at least extend the life of the login cookie to more than a week or two, preferably to a month or two.

I love the board and think it's a precious resource, but traffic is so slow and I only visit every other week these days.

I am SOOOOOO sick and tired of ticking boxes and fighting those insipid capchas every bloody time I visit.

Post editor seems to go a bit nuts and hang for longer than it should be in the posting save process?

Possibly due to length of thread? Not noticeable at first, but it caught my eye tonight.

It could be a feature or it could be a badly programmed search tree.

Either way you might want to run some tests or keep an eye on it if you are still evaluating the software.

Old PHPBB and future update

Hi, The forum code version is too old and some things are starting to fail. For example, I can't add via the Administrator UI the "PC4" as an option for the question of what product you own for newly registered users. It gives lots of errors. Like that there are other things that are currently failing miserably. Eventually, I'll need to update to a new version of PHPBB and pray that we can port all the content seamlessly. This is just a little heads-up for the rocky times ahead of us until everything is pretty again.

Hello Admin, Can I suggest you tweak phpBB's Search Indexing settings so that "common words" are not ignored, and breaking any ability to search for things, like "Forte" I'd love to search before asking questions, however, I cannot.

Information The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: forte. You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.

Not to be presumptuous, but in case you do not know where this is, it's in ACP, Search Settings, Common Word Threshold. Set it to 0, since you do not have a billion posts

Common word threshold: Words which are contained in a greater percentage of all posts will be regarded as common. Common words are ignored in search queries. Set to zero to disable. Only takes effect if there are more than 100 posts. If you want words that are currently regarded as common to be reconsidered you have to recreate the index.

Hi, I have a new account with an alternate email that I used to re-register. I have an old account here, apparently because I couldn't use my usual email address as it said it was in use. Also, I don't know my old username so I can't use forgot the password. I would like to change my new account to the old email, but it won't let me. What to do? Pete
