Hi All,

I was wondering if it was possible to add a usb 49 key midi controller to trigger sounds from my pc3le. Ideally I would like to just use it as an extension of the original keys, can someone please tell me if this is possible?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Yes it is easily doable.

Just hook up the MIDI OUT on the controller to the MIDI IN on the Kurzweil and set the controller to control the channel/voice you want it to control.

Hey Gary,

Thank you so much for the reply! That is great news, I only need it for certain patches where I just run out of space with the 61 keys!

Would it work the same way for USB Midi ?

It works for USB but ONLY if you hook them both up to a computer or a USB MIDI HOST Box and use routing software to route the MIDI signals to and from the appropriate devices.

Otherwise, simplest, stand alone solution is directly hook MIDI IN on the Kurz to MIDI OUT on the controller and enable MIDI messages on the Kurz.

BTW, if I understand you correctly, you intend to use the controller as a sort of "extension" to the LE's keyboard in order to gain 4 additional octaves?

If so, that really shouldn't work as both keyboards will respond to the same range of notes as they will mirror one another if they are synced to the same channel/voice.

If you really need an 88 Keyboard, however, you could always use an 88 Key Controller and hook it up the same way and use the Kurzweil as a module and independently control two different channels from the two keyboards, effectively turning the LE into a MODULE for the controller.

Why not using a setup in this case? It should be possible to create two zones with the same program and different channels and mute and transpose the one matching the external master channel

Guys, thank you very much for your help.

I don't necessarily need 88 keys, the 76 would have been perfect - unfortunately I couldn't find any in stock and got the 61 key NIB through a dealer for a great price.

Problem is I always seem to be short one octave for what I want, in theory if I can't use it as an extension, could I use out to trigger a separate sound all together without changing when I change my qa banks?

I appreciate all your help and input, I honestly love this board so far!
