Hi,

I recently purchased a Kurzweil Forte 7 keyboard. I experienced some problems with the MIDI over USB connection. Sometimes the communication between the the keyboard and the DAW (Cakewalk Sonar on Windows 7 x64) was unstable, for example notes were hanging during MIDI playback. So I decided to buy a USB MIDI converter cable, and connect the board to the DAW over MIDI. The first time I connected the MIDI jacks wrong: "IN" to Forte MIDI IN, "OUT" to Forte MIDI OUT. Something very strange and frightening happened, when I powered up the keyboard: the display began to light up, and after a few seconds, without starting the loading process, it went completely blank, and nothing else happened. The unit didn't powered on. After switching off, and on again, the same happened. Then, when I reversed the two MIDI connectors, "IN" to Forte MIDI OUT, "OUT" to Forte MIDI IN, the keyboard powered up normally. However I couldn't get it working with Sonar, after selecting the USB MIDI driver for MIDI IN/OUTPUT, there was no MIDI communication in any direction. The drivers were properly installed, after connecting to the computer, in the device manager the the USB MIDI driver showed up.

Now I'm using the keyboard with it's own MIDI over USB connection, and it works correctly, except, when there are sometimes hanging notes during MIDI playback in Sonar, I have to restart the Forte.

However I worry about, what happened. Was it only a software crash, or something could be permanently damaged?

Regards,

Does your Forte have the latest OS? You should consider contacting Kurzweil support
