My PC3K8 has been drifting in and out of tune. Googling around and watching the MIDI data implies that the pitch bend wheel is sending errant messages. For now, I've disabled it however, what are the next best steps for diagnosis/fix? As I understand it:
- there's a scanner diagnostic function (456 at power on - although this doesn't achieve anything for me) that allows the values on the pitch bend wheel to be identified and subsequently tuned by adjusting a potentiometer on the wheel PCB assembly
- open the instrument and ensure all connectors to the keyboard/PCB/wheel PCB are well seated (my instrument is a gigging one and travels 1-2 times each week so I can well imagine loose connections)
- replace the 10k potentiometer that handles the pitch bend wheel
Any other suggestions based upon experience and/or resolution of this issue?
Thx
Lee.
Hi,
A few things before you send it to service:
- Go to Master Mode, set Display as Ctls. Go back to Program mode. Now touch the Pitch Bend. You will see the pitch wheel band on the left side on the screen. See if it goes back to 0 or not.
- Also note that MIDI 15 and MIDI 21 are auxiliary pitch bends (for Ribbon and others). I've seen cases in the past of people using those 2 MIDI CCs and having pitch issues. In Global - MIDI State you could check the state of those CCs.
Regards,
Fran
Thanks for the tips. 100% a sticky pitch bend. Am going to try cleaning ahead of calibration then replacing the potentiometer. Fatar. Grrrrr.
