Hello from Athens, Greece!
First time here, recently bought SP4 used and loving it.
Today I tried to update for the first time, from OS v2.0 to OS v2.10 although everything was working right with OS v2.0. I though I would like to have the new improvements/fixes mentioned in the update before loading any new PC3 sounds and doing a reset before starting to make my one presets in the user bank.
I connected the SP4 with the usb cable, I booted with SHIFT pressed down in system mode and the SP4 is not appearing as drive on my computer.
I checked it in 3 different PCs and 3 different usb cables. No luck.
I then did successfully File Utilities -> Format/DeleteAll to fix any related issue. No luck again.
I now power on the SP4 and it goes to system mode automatically.
“SP4_SP76II bootloader v1.44” showing and then “Run SP4_SP76II” (without Shift pressing down).
I press Next/+ to the "Run SP4_SP76II" showing and I get "OS load error--3".
The SP4 is useless and no update procedure is available as in the beginning.
Any help before returning the SP4 to the service department of the Greek Authorized Re-seller would be grateful.
Kind Regards,
Christos

Hi Christos, very sorry to hear this. As you probably read already in this forum, the tech support at Kurzweil is probably the best available on the keyboard market, so you may drop an email to support@kurzweil.com and they will give you some useful tip. One question: did you ever use your sp4 to drive some daw - vst on your pc? In other words, do you have any proof that the USB port of your sp4 is not defective?
Good luck!

No I didn't. This was the first time I connected the USB cable since I bought it.
I will also send an email to support.
I'm still under 1year product warranty. Bought it on March as I remember... So the official service is the safe choice to give it a try.
Is that a common issue?
Would be probably a difficult fix?

So it's probably a defective USB issue. Maybe the Kurzweil support will suggest some tests to identify the culprit, but if the piano is under warranty the safe choice is to take it to the authorized service center. You will have to wait some days but I see you have other keys which will bit leave you alone (I had a great feeling with the sp-250, I replaced it with a weighted master only because I needed more controls (and the pc3 covers all my sound needs).
Let us know!
I've contacted today with the service department so I will go tomorrow to give them the SP4.
Unfortunately, they have a lot of workload so they informed me that it will take over a week to start checking it.
SP250 is a heavy instrument and I'm not taking it out of the house at all. I use it ony for piano studying or home recordings.
For any of the two bands, I use 2 racks, PC2R along with ME1 or XV5080, and the first keyboard has to be 76 so I can split or play piano parts, so it's all about the old D70 that I was using as my main midi controller, and that's the reason I bought SP4-7, to replace D70-PC2R combination and carrying less weight.
I will keep you informed.

Case closed. I got it back one month after sending it for repair, and then used it a lot. About 2 weeks ago, I tried to use the midi via usb and there were also issues and sound crashes. I got it back to service, the keyboard usb was reprogrammed and yesterday I got it back fixed. I bought the SP4 Sound Editor and I'm now using the midi via usb capabilities of the software/sp4. I hope the usb thriller stops here.
