Hello All,
This year i have sold my SP5-8 en bought a slightly damaged PC3X. Some of the keys where melted and the backlight of the screen didn't work. I have changed the molten keys and changed the screen. Now it is fully functional. I really like the instrument. Especially the electric piano and KB3 sounds. The only disadvance is the weight. Quite heavy when taking it to gigs. The other band menbers are not very eager to help carry the thing.
So, I have been looking at the specs of the PC4. Which is much lighter.
Can anyone tell how it differs soundwise? Is the overal sound of the PC4 better? Speaking of piano, EP and KB3
I would like to know if the extra money is worth it.
Assumming that the keyboard and overall design has the same quality as the PC3
Unfortunately I live a long distance from musicstores which have the PC4 in stock to compare it.
kind Regards,
HJ
Hello!
I must admit I never had a PC3X (too heavy) but I used to carry a PC3 and a PC3K6 around for gigs. And, I had a Forte 88 at home for some weeks, and the keybed should be the same of PC3X.
The keybed of my current PC4 is not the same quality of the previous one, but still playable. It’s a good compromise allowing to play piano parts and organ / synth parts. Aftertouch is not very uniform (some key are almost insensitive to pressure, others work fine).
About sounds… many people say the older PC3 sounds better. My opinion is that what’s different is that many of the samples, mainly in the piano / e-piano sections are new and sound more detailed. This requires more attention when putting them in a mix with the band. Regarding organ sounds, my bassist always says KB3 sounds “warmer” than the PC3.
I’m generally satisfied with my PC4, but as always the only verdict should come from your own fingers and your own ears. I hope you can find some user in your area who can let it test it without reaching a very distant store.

I think Cecchino's take is pretty good.
PC3X has a better action than the PC4, but the PC4 has a more variety of sounds, including all the PC3 sounds and it's way lighter. So, it's a compromise.

Thanks for the replies.
As i play the piano sounds most of the time. The weighted hammer action is important for me. So for now i will stick with the PC3x.
