Hi everyone,
I just picked up a PC3K8 last week and love it.
My first contact with Kurzweil dates from 1989 when I got a 1000PX module. I would have loved the K250 but that wasn't in the budget by a long stretch. The first thing that struck me with the 1000PX was the beautifully musical Grand Piano. The Kurzweil piano was on the dark, broody and warm side of the spectrum which I much preferred to the often tinny and bright sounds of its contemporaries in those early days of sampling technology. And then there were those strings ... ah. I would pick them by ear used on records by some of my favourite artists like The Cure or Dead Can Dance. Speaking of which, Lisa Gerrard (founding member of DCD) is a long time Kurzweil user. I believe she has composed and recorded whole albums with just a K2600 - very recognisable sound.
Anyway - fast forward twenty odd years and here I am with the PC3K incarnation. Those lovely orchestral sounds are all there. Beautifully layered and creating a thick sonic tapestry. As you would have picked up by now, my priority with the PC3K lies in the orchestral and piano based sounds, but I am in the middle of full exploration of the board's capabilities.
In the end it was a choice between the PC3K6 and PC3K8. I am very happy to have gone with the 8-version as the Fatar TP-40 keys are a pleasure to play.
Happy to be on a board with ksetlist. I hope I can make some valuable contributions...
Cheers
