Hello, it's been awhile but I'm back to doing programming tutorials for the PC3-series instruments. These should also apply to any other Kurzweil instrument that a.) has either an onboard editor or can be edited with a software editor, and b.) is compatible with the PC3. So, this includes everything from the SP-4 series up through the Forte, and probably a few others I'm forgetting about at the moment. There may be some differences in your user interface (the software editors look and function differently from the on-board editors) but most of the terms and concepts should be similar or the same. Some of this stuff is also applicable on older Kurzweil instruments. Kurzweil is awesome enough to keep improving VAST while still maintaining many of its basic principles, so learning any of the instruments goes a long way towards learning the others and, IMO, means that time spent learning to program a Kurzweil is extremely well-spent. So, here's my latest video about doing audio-rate modulation in VAST (using the DSP blocks instead of, say, FUNs or ENVs or LFOs):

I expect to spend more time here (I prefer to post on publicly-accessible forums), so feel free to leave comments/suggestions/etc in this thread. There is much more to come, including videos about:

Effects Mode
Setups
Song Mode
Arpeggiators/Step Sequencers

And, of course, lots of fun with VAST. At some point in the future I plan to obtain a Forte, so when that happens I'll do some videos that explore the Forte interface and all the awesome things you can do with it (including fun with the audio input and stuff to do with your own samples). I strongly believe that VAST is the best synthesis money can buy, for all the reasons stated above and more, and it continues to be the premier platform for digital synthesis and sample manipulation.

1-finger chords that you can "program" by playing keys with the sustain pedal down. All in a single Layer of VAST. Kurzweil rocks!

You've done a fantastic job over the years with your tutorials.

It would be nice and I assume useful to many if you'd consider turning this thread into an index of all your tutorials in sequence.

While I realize that all of your tutorials are also available on your youtube page, I have to say the indexing on that site leaves a lot to be desired.

Linking every video to this thread as well as the Mastering VAST site would insure that the videos received the widest possible audience.

Nonetheless, 3 cheers for the wonderful work you have done so far.

Hip! Hip! Hooray!

Gary ;)

Do you have a "Will Program for Forte" sign made up so you can start building up your Forte Fund?

I've followed your work ever since the Sonik/BRB days...can't wait for your Forte tutorials.

Cheers!

I've tried a couple of times to set up a "donate" button for my YouTube channel, but I haven't had time to run it down (it's tricky because of some AdSense stuff). Anyways, in the meantime here's moar, this time applying AM, FM, and audio-rate moduation to creating a single-layer "supersaw"-like sound. Once again, VAST is truly awesome:
