That's a tough one, I believe it was a sequenced part played on an ARP 2600.

According to some of the commenters on this youtube video, it's a guitar processed through the synth filters of the Arp.
Do you want to actually play the notes or let the LFO control the pulsing rhythm? If you go the LFO route, maybe try sticking effect#362 LFO sweep filter at the end of the chain.I just tried this on one of the rock guitar programs and it sounded pretty good. The LFO shape is set on Saw--.

I agree, driven guitar through a oscillating synth filter. Sometimes you can hear the guitar chords when the filter is open.
