Greetings!

I was also have this problem with my PC361 (currently, I am using a PC3K61 and same problem).

Volume output.

I use a Korg M3 (White Keyboard) and a Kurz on my gigs.
The Kurz is my Main controller for it's setup to control a D550, Access Virus and itself.
My biggest complaint has been the volume output of the Kurz.
I try to balance the 2 keyboards (volume wise on the setups and on my rack mixer), still - the Kurz needs more power to cut through.

So, I am asking the collective here a few questions:
What are your secrets to getting the more presence in the mix for your Kurz?
Do you do anything special for a type of "best" piano sound out of your Kurz?
(Often times, the same goes for the El piano sounds in the same example)
Do you double sounds on your Kurz to get a thicker/fatter sound?

I was thinking about purchasing a Spark Boost pedal and put it on the output of the Kurz to give me more power.

Another thought was I saw something online on 3rd party sounds called the Ultimate PIano (for various kbrds including Kurz) and thought maybe I should go that route.

Suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Are you using balanced cords (two rings in the plug instead of one) with your Kurzweil?
If not, try and see whether it improves the situation.

Hi,

As thin_i said, you should use balance cables.

Second, you can also play with the Master FXs. There is a compressor in there.

Greetings!

So "I" understand this:
I do run left and right out of the Kurz but the cables are both mono running to a one rack space mixer.
If I understand you correctly, you are saying use Balanced cables (essentially stereo)
cables on BOTH outputs (L & R)??

My mixer accepts a L&R input per channel.
Thus I have been taking the outs of the Kurz (mono ea.) to L&R of the mixer.
I will try this, but for some reason I keep thinking I will lose output..

Thx.

You never answered the question about the balanced cables. See the link below:

https://www.amazon.com/Tisino-Stereo-Y- ... 911&sr=8-7

The cable on the right is a balanced cable. The two cables on the left are unbalanced. You can tell by looking at the tip. The cable on the right has two black lines, the cables on the left has one. The balanced cable (on the right) can carry a +4db output while the cable on the left can carry -10db. This will increase the output of the keyboard while also cancelling noise.

2 quick explanations below, one explaining balanced vs. unbalanced and one explaining +4 db vs. -10 db:

https://motu.com/techsupport/technotes/ ... unbalanced

https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/ar ... 10-inputs/

If still low after switching the cables then on the Kurzweil: go into effects mode (push the effects button), click on master, scroll to EQ, hit the edit button. A screen will appear, scroll to output gain, move the output gain to about 6.0. This will increase the output significantly.
This adjustment will disappear on powerup unless you save it to the master table, then it will be permanent until readjusted by you and resaved to the master table. See page 9-7 of the pc3 hardbound manual.

You said that you plug the keyboards into a mixer. Why dont you just turn the kurz up on the mixer and the other keyboards down until they are all volume balanced? That is one of the functions of a mixer. Take advantage of its features. You also did not mention what type of mixer that you have; just that it is a one rack space mixer. Read its manual, are the inputs balanced or unbalanced? If Balanced then those inputs are expecting +4 db and by using an unbalanced cable between the Kurz and the mixer you are sending -10 db. According to the article above doing this and you will not have enough gain going into the mixer and the noise level will also increase. So you need to understand your equipment being used to get the proper gain staging as well as best sound quality.

Please, in addition to all the info given, read this Knowledge Base article that explains it all.
