OK, gang. I've been through the manual, I've Googled it, I've dug into the menus on my PC3LE6 and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to remove the overdrive from some of the preset organ sounds. I've found some settings for overdrive in the editing menus, but the value is already set to 0. What am I missing? I'm sure it's something very simple but I'm at a loss here. Any help is definitely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Jim

I don't have the PC3 in front of me but I believe the distortion is part of the effect. so edit the effect you have assigned to the KB3 program. It is somewhere in there. In general, most of the distortion is 'assigned' to the Mod Wheel (CC#1). So look in the effect for something whose source is controlled by the Mod Wheel (CC#1). Also, read the effects section in chapter 9 (somewhere around 9-21). It might also be the Lo Gain and the Hi Gain section in the KB3A effect. Again, I can't completely remember without the PC3 in front of me.

Yes, the distortion is assigned to the Mod wheel. But, even with the Mod wheel all the way down (in the 'off' position), there's still distortion. I want to get rid of it. I want to use the Mod wheel to add that effect only when I need it.

I'll poke around in the effects settings again and see if I can come up with something.

Thanks.

Just because the mod wheel is all the way down doesn't necessarily mean the distortion is set to zero. If the range of distortion set by the mod wheel is 20-127, then in position "0" (off) you still will have distortion. That is why I advised you to check to see what the Mod wheel was assigned to. Once you find this you will see the distortion piece of the effect, then remove the source that generates the distortion altogether. Just like the expression pedal in KB3 mode, with the expression pedal completely up "0", you still get volume coming out of the keyboard, because internally in the software code zero isn't zero for KB3 purposes (mimicking a real B3). Same thing can be happening with the distortion; that is why you have to remove the distortion effect completely.

You have to go into the FX chain and turn the drive level all down. I don´t know if you can edit FX chains on the LE today, in the beginning it has been somewhat restricted with programming.
At the level of the KB3 mode there also might be some details left that cause a slight crunchy sound, because there are simulated imperfections of the tonewheel-technology. You have to find that parameters and turn them down, too. Something like "leakage" for example. Are you looking for some kind of really clean organ? There a some types in my mind. Some might be better done with VAST, because KB3 is somewhat "to real" and it might be less effort to do that simply with a synthesized organ.

Try regulating the "leakage" option. I think Type-Z is the most aggressive and puts in some sort of distortion.
