I testet my PC3LE8 with two thumb drives.
Both USB 2.0, 16 GB and FAT32, only with a little punch of midi files.
The same at both.

So one could be used with the PC3LE8 but the 2nd was not recognized.
Both using not more than the 100 mA the port is serving.

Can someone tell me what matters and is there a tip which thumb drive to use and which format, I couldnt find any suggestions within the manual ...

Thanks

Dirk

Some brands simply do not work at all.

Some have low level boot sectors and boot software preloaded at the factory that require a good format to get rid of before they are usable.

Personally I have had good results using the Sandisk 8 GB Cruzer Fit drives and stocked up on a few when they were cheap and available.

Considering it's actually almost impossible to fill up 8 gigs with samples and keyboard patches, I imagine they'll serve me well enough for the remaining lifetime of the keyboard.

I agree to you, 8GB will be enough for a long time and maybe two of them are 16GB.

Still saving some patches and some MIDI, hundreds of files will not fill 8GB.

Thanks for your tip, thats what I was looking for.

You're welcome Dirk.

Be advised that the Sandisks I linked do have boot software loaded on them but I simply fdisked them and formatted them to FAT32 with Linux and they worked fine afterwards.

You may have to download a utility to get rid of the crapware with Windows though.

Just google "sandisk decrapifier" and there's a utility that comes up that works with windows as well.

No problem, I'm fine with linux.
Still using all worlds: macos, ios, linux and windows. And an atari st additional :)
Making a clean bootloader is always a good idea, done often but not at all.

If you're using Linux, I used Gparted to clean the drive before use.

No probs :)

I have a PC3K7 and for portable USB storage I use a HP v150W 16GB.

It works very reliably without any issues at all.

In holiday I bought a thumb drive because of leaving all mine at home.
So I walked to an electronics market an bought a intenso rainbow series 32GB.
Works perfectly without issues at the PC3LE8.
