Synth Strings on PC3(K) missing! PWM?

Hello,

I am absolutely satisfied with my PC3K7 and the "normal" string section outperforms every other workstation out there. However I have difficulties finding nice smooth synth strings.
I also have a Motif XS and its synth strings section is just a blast, easily 10 programs you can use for 80s / 90s background synth strings. It goes in the direction of Pulse-width modulation (PWM) - these are the best programs in the Motif.

I really cannot find them in the PC3K. The "pads" are usually over-sweepy, over-flangery or -phasery, and even with the Kore64 (which is a major disappointment IMHO, but that's another topic) I cannot find something that satisfies my needs. The ones that seem "synthy" are in my eyes too close to traditional string sounds.

Can anyone help me with (a) a nice program (I literally switched through all factory programs!!) or (b) a third party link (but please no 100MB library with 200 sounds, thereof 1 decent synth string).

Would appreciate!!

What sounds are ypu looking for christian? "Synth string" is quite generic, try to post some audio or YouTube clips...
I no longer own a pc3k but there should be lots of ARP strings sounds in the ClassicKeys bank. You should always be able to adjust effects amount (phaser/flangers/..) via the sliders.

Hi Mac06.
Yes you might be right. "Synth strings" is quite general.
What I mean are typically simple PWM (pulse width modulation) type of lush string sounds.

Maybe three example:

- Billy Idol : eyes without a face - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OFpfTd0EIs
- Nena: 99 Luftballons (intro sequence) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=La4Dcd1aUcE
- Waldorf Streichfett https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_LVudzk-x8 from 12:14

There are many smooth synth strings for K2 keyboards. You can download them for free from kurzweil.com and load into your PC3K.

Check out: Loverboy - Working for the weekend, I just posted to "L".

Might be the kind of strings you are looking for.... (right hand on the setup, you can change the setup to go across entire keyboard or just use the program 'FAT Syn Orch' in your own setups. (It is a stock program... although I probably tweeked it).

Also check out the strings sound on The Cars LetsGo2 I just posted to "C" (In the setup the Pgm 'Lets Go Strings') I think again might be good.

Also check out this site for the K2000 Farm converted to PC3, lots of good stuff here :-)

http://dignode.com/pc3x_EN.html

You probably need to load the K2661 ROM Compatibility File to get them to work...
get it here:
