Hi - I only just found this community! I've had a second hand PC361 for a while now. I cannot for the life of me get the setup's to sound properly. With the pre-sets, I can only hear the sound from on one zone (if anything at all). When I try to make my own basic setup with e.g. three layers of programs with, say, piano in zone 1, strings in zone 2 and brass in 3, the only sound I hear is piano in zone 1. I know its something to do with midi, because if I go into zone 2, strings, and change the midi channel from default channel 2 to channel 1, I hear strings. But I can't layer the sounds.
Whilst I'm on the subject, I can't get the on-board sequencer to work in more than one channel and I suspect that's to do with midi too, but if I get my head round this one, I might just work out that problem for myself.....
Someone recently asked a similar question in the context of Cubase but the answer didn't help me.
All thoughts/comments welcome! I'd love to use PC361 for more than just playing programs.
HI,
In Setup Mode each Zone plays a Program. Each Program plays in a Channel. So, to hear the 3 Programs, you need to put a different MIDI Channel in each Zone.
If, on the other hand, what you want is to create ONE Program, that plays in ONE MIDI channel with those 3 sounds, then you are editing the wrong thing. You'd have to edit a Program, and add Layers to that program.
As this is pretty basic stuff, I'd recommend you re-read the manual and watch some of the videos that there are in www.kurzweil.com . Once you get the terminology right (Layers vs Zones, Programs vs Setups, etc...) then everything will make more sense.
Regards,
Fran
Hipo might be correct but just to be sure I would do an operating system restore to the latest operating system. The fresh install would restore everything to factory. I would then check if things are behaving normally. I think you will find that things should then be working properly.

Gents, just to say thanks but I'm afraid I'm no further forward. I tried to do a system update per Dave's suggestion, but couldn't open the file so that fell at the first hurdle. I then thought, why not try system reset - surely that will restore everything to original factory parameters. It didn't do anything .... ! Oh well.
Like Hipo said, you need to do a little reading, and watch some of the videos on the Kurz site or You Tube, ... those can really help you. I know its tough starting out with the pc3, it was my first modern keyboard and 2 years later I still have not figured a lot of it out.
Do this....
Press setup button
Go to 126 or 128
Press Edit button
Hit "more" button till you see "new zone"
Press "new zone" button and then enter a string program or whatever program you like
Don't do anything else, just hit "exit" button and then press "save" button when prompted
Now you have a 2 zone setup with piano and strings( or whatever program you used)
Very straight forward, if this doesn't work you have other problems besides newbie issue.
Guys thanks again. I just had a eureka moment. I went into Midi mode, pressed the receive soft button and changed MIDI mode to Omni and, voila, everything is cool. The set ups all sound and I can work the sequencer (well, sort of ....) .
The guy who sold it to me used it as a controller keyboard only, so he probably changed this.

Read your post and thought you might like this. This set up has Pro piano on slider A, Horns/Orch on slider B, Strings on Slider C, and Choir on slider D. 0 entry volumes on everything but piano. F- I is the reverbs for each but in reverse order. I like it cause I can control the volumes of each right away in a song. BTW the the horns are only to C3.
